Book Review: How to Be A Rockstar Freelancer
I have just finished reading How to be a Rockstar Freelancer by Cyan and Collis Ta’eed, the founders of FreelanceSwitch and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get started in the freelance business. As a rookie freelancer, I found myself overwhelmed by the prospect of starting my own business. I wasn't sure where to start, how much to charge, etc.
If you are thinking about started a career as a freelancer, whether part-time or full-time, I wholeheartedly suggest investing in this book. This book removed much of the anxiety I had about getting started. I felt that after reading this book that I had gained the confidence I needed to step into the freelance game.
To give you a taste, some of my favorite topics included:
- How to get your first projects and clients
- How to price yourself at the beginning and how to increase over time
- How to communicate with different kinds of clients
- Marketing and branding yourself
The book also has some general information on legal issues, taxes, and invoicing (including an invoice sample). I will use this book as a handbook for my business and I suggest you give it a try too. I agree with the .NET magazine in saying that How to be a Rockstar Freelancer is "a real nuts and bolts guide to building a career as a freelancer online."
You can view the first 15 pages of the book including the contents and some sample pages at the Lulu Book Preview.
